Principal's
Biography
Ms. Beverley lkier has established The Ikier Center, which
focuses on helping clients with a variety of conditions to
improve their quality of life. Her clients are encouraged
to expand their vision for their wellness and work toward
reaching specific milestones.
The Ikier Center presents a combination
of many therapeutic exercise and massage techniques that Ms.
Ikier has studied and developed over many years of practice.
Included are very successful integrated approaches for restoring
more normal function of activities of daily life and better
athletic performance.
It has become clear that Massage and Touch
Therapy are rapidly moving to the forefront of health care,
both nationally and internationally. Published studies support
the positive effects of touch on the nervous, hormonal and
immune systems for the relief of pain, muscular tension and
stress. Therefore, it has become an integral part of The Ikier
Center's treatment plans.
Ms. Ikier's training and background include
receiving her RN at McGill University and Royal Victoria Hospital
in Canada. Ms. Ikier then spent two years in post-graduate
studies at the Montreal Neurological Institute and the National
Hospital for Nervous Diseases in London, England.
Ms. Ikier's massage background comes from
her experiences in the medical field, along with eight years
as a nationally certified massage therapist, exercise instructor
and educator of bone strengthening (Dr. Miriam Nelson, PhD,
Tufts University). Ms. Ikier's most recent certification is
from the National Council of Strength and Fitness, which qualifies
her as a Personal Trainer and provides an even greater base
of information to offer her clients, whether it is for exercises
to be done at home, at The Ikier Center or in a gym. In addition,
her treatment plans include techniques taken from Yoga, Feldenkrais,
Alexander Technique and Imagery for Healing.
For five years, Ms. Ikier was certified
with the Arthritis Foundation to instruct the Arthritis Aquatics
program. This work was very motivational, as she constantly
saw people beginning to work without walkers, canes and pain
after just a few weeks in the pool doing very “joint
friendly” exercises. Although Ms. Ikier is no longer
working in water, she has modified all exercises to be “joint
friendly.”
Every single person, young or senior, who
came in through the door of The Ikier Center has some discomfort
or limitation, but each client also has potential for improvement.
That is the goal and vision of The Ikier Center - behind every
treatment plan that's written.
Over the years, Ms. Ikier has seen hundreds
of seniors experience relief from pain, tightness or dizziness,
and from that point on, they are empowered to move ahead into
a new and better quality of life. Each client receives a highly
individualized treatment plan, which includes home-based self-care
assignments. Click here
